Ice Pick Scars

These scars are deep, narrow, and have the appearance of small, v-shaped holes or pits on the skin's surface. They are called "ice pick" scars because they resemble the marks left by an ice pick or needle.

Boxcar Scars

Boxcar scars are broader and have well-defined edges. They look like shallow depressions with a flat base and steep sides, similar to the scars caused by chickenpox.

Rolling Scars

These scars create a wave-like or undulating texture on the skin due to bands of fibrous tissue pulling the epidermis down. They are more superficial than ice pick or boxcar scars.

Hypertrophic scars

Age Spots

These are small dark brown patches, sometimes called sunspots, which tend to develop on sun-exposed areas of skin such as the forehead, around the eyes, or elsewhere on the face or neck. They can also occur on the backs of the hands or the arms.

Melasma

When larger patches of hyperpigmentation occur these are called melasma. In women, they are often linked to the use of hormonal contraception or HRT.Hyperpigmentation can also occur as a result of pregnancy hormones when it is known as chloasma – often referred to as ‘the mask of pregnancy’.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

This occurs when hyperpigmentation follows on from an area of inflammation on the skin, for example, following a flare up of acne lesions, or eczema.

Types Of Pimples

Comedones


Comedones are non-inflammatory acne lesions.

‍Whiteheads (Closed Comedones): These are small, flesh-colored bumps that form when the hair follicle opening is clogged with oil and dead skin cells. The pore remains closed, creating a white appearance on the skin's surface.

‍Blackheads (Open Comedones): Blackheads are similar to whiteheads, but the pore is open, and the clogged material is exposed to air, causing it to darken and appear black.

Pustules
